Diamond League Prefontaine Classic 2024: Christian Coleman holds off Ferdinand Omanyala in men's 100m
Christian Coleman returned to winning ways in the 100m at the Diamond League Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday (25 May).
The American made his trademark fast start with Ferdinand Omanyala trying to keep pace. The Kenyan made inroads into the 2019 world champion's lead inside the last 20m, but the line came in time for Coleman who won in 9.95 with Omanyala also clocking a season's best 9.98.
Brandon Hicklin of the United States was third in 10.08 with Jamaica's Ackeem Blake running 10.12 in fourth.
This was a first victory for Coleman since winning at the Diamond League opener in Xiamen. He was beaten the following week in Suzhou by Akani Simbine and finished a disappointing fifth in the 200m at the Jamaica Invitational a fortnight ago.
He said afterwards, "I feel like I'm in the best shape I've ever been in and I feel like now it's just mentally putting it all together and doing what I know I'm capable of on race day.
"Every race is different. I was happy I was able to execute today, come out with a win, and we'll go back to the drawing board and be better next time."
