Veteran Indian table tennis player Sharath Kamal will be chasing his second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 when he meets Liam Pitchford of England in the men's singles final at the National Exhibition Centre in Solihull on Monday.

The 40-year-old Sharath Kamal defied age and produced a class performance against Paul Drinkhall in the semi-final of Birmingham 2022. The Indian won 4-2 (11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8).

World No. 39 Sharath Kamal is playing in his fifth CWG. The last time he played a CWG final, in Melbourne 2006, he returned with a gold medal by overcoming then favourite William Henzell.

Liam Pitchford is also the gold medallist in doubles from Gold Coast 2018. The Sharath Kamal vs Liam Pitchford table tennis gold medal match is scheduled to start at 4:30 PM Indian time on Monday

Before the final, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, ranked 35th, will compete with Paul Drinkhall of England for the bronze medal. G Sathiyan lost the semi-final to Liam Pitchford 4-1 (11-5, 4-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9).

The 29-year-old Sathiyan, a Tokyo Olympian, made his CWG debut in 2018. The Indian will be a favourite against Paul Drinkhall, who is ranked 74th.
