The men’s fours team have assured India of a second lawn bowls medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK after they made it to the final.

The men’s fours team of Sunil Bahadur, Navneet Singh, Chandan Kumar Singh and Dinesh Kumar beat England 13-12 in a tense and thrilling semi-final at Victoria Park.

The Indian men’s fours lawn bowls team will now take on Northern Ireland in the final on Saturday.

The men’s fours had earlier beaten Canada 14-10 in the last eight stage.

Against England, who have 20 Commonwealth Games gold medals in lawn bowls and five in the men’s fours, India led 2-0 after the first two ends.

However, the hosts steadily grew into the game, drawing level by the third end and then opened up an 8-3 gap by the seventh end.

India then bounced back, not allowing England to score in the next four ends as they took a narrow 9-8 lead on the 11th end. The home team, though, kept their nerves and made it 12-10 on the 14th end, setting up a tense finish.

The Indian team responded in fine fashion, getting three of their bowls closer to the jack and with it, clinched a memorable 13-12 win to advance to the final.

Earlier in the day, Lovely Choubey and Nayanmoni Saikia - two members of the fours team who won the historic gold medal at Birmingham 2022 were knocked out of the women’s pairs quarter-final, losing 18-14 to England.

On Thursday, Mridul Borgohain had bowed out of the men’s singles with a 21-13 loss to Jersey’s Ross Davis.
