Tuesday, August 2, promises to be an eventful day for Indian athletes at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK.

While the country’s track and field athletes will begin their CWG 2022 campaign today, India will also be vying for three team gold medals over the course of the next 24 hours.

The lawn bowls women’s fours team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Tirkey have already created history by confirming the country’s first-ever CWG medal in the sport and will look to go all the way when they face South Africa for the gold medal.

The Indian mixed badminton team, meanwhile, will take the court at the NEC to defend their crown against a strong Malaysian team. The likes of PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth will be eager to bag the team gold before the singles and doubles campaigns get underway.

The men’s table tennis team also ousted Nigeria in the semi-finals and will play Singapore for the gold medal on Tuesday.

In athletics, watch out for women’s discus thrower Seema Punia chasing her fifth consecutive CWG medal. With a bronze and four silvers under her belt, the 39-year-old will be eager to get her hands on the gold this time around.

The Indian women’s hockey team will also be in action today against home team England in a Pool match.
