The women’s fours went through to the quarter-finals of the lawn bowls competition at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK on Friday.

The team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Tirkey beat Canada 17-7 in their final sectional match to finish second in section D. India had also beaten the Cook Islands while losing to England, the section toppers.

The men’s pairs team of Sunil Bahadur and Dinesh Kumar are in good position to progress to the last eight as they won 15-8 against the Cook Islands. They currently sit second in section C and have a match left against section toppers England.

However, the men’s triples team of Navneet Singh, Mridul Borgohain and Chandan Kumar Singh bowed out of Birmingham 2022 after tying 16-16 with Malta in their final sectional match. They lost two matches and tied one to finish bottom of section A.

In the women’s singles, Tania Choudhary was also eliminated after losing her third sectional match 21-10 to Laura Daniels of Wales. The Indian has one more sectional match left but sits bottom of section B and cannot make it to the top two even if she wins her final match.

The sectional play will continue in lawn bowls at CWG 2022 on Sunday while the quarter-finals will also begin for some categories.
