Cody Simpson has booked his ticket to the semi-final of the men's 100m butterfly at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The 25-year-old, who switched careers from life as a pop-star to the swimming lanes, completed his heat with a time of 52.47 to finish fifth out of the 47 who swam.

Simpson will return to the pool this evening for the semi-finals where he will bid to go one better than he did in the 50m butterfly. The Australian did not make the final in the event.

Also through to the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly are Joshua Liendo Edwards of Canada, who finished the heats with the fastest time (51.36), Englishmen James Guy, Jamie Ingram and Jacob Thomas Taylor Peters, and South Africa's Chad le Clos.

His compatriot notably Kyle Chalmers did not start.

The semi-finals will begin at 19:57 (UTC+1/GMT).
