Olympian Nitendra Singh Rawat will represent India in the men’s marathon at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. On Saturday, the race will start at Smithfield and finish at Victoria Square. The famous Edgbaston Cricket Stadium will be en route.

Kenya’s Olympic champion and marathon world-record holder Eliud Kipchoge will not run in the Birmingham 2022 marathon. He will return to action in September.

Australian racer Michael Shelley, who won at Gold Coast 2018, retired a year later. A new champion may emerge among the men. And since there is no Ethiopia at the CWG, Namibian and Ugandan racers can have a crack at the podium. Watch live streaming of the marathons.

Namibia ace Helalia Johannes, who won bronze at the world athletics championships in Doha in 2019, will defend her title in the women's category. India have no representatives in the women’s marathon at CWG 2022.

The 35-year-old Nitendra Singh Rawat won the Delhi Marathon earlier this year. He completed the race in a personal best time of 2:16:05s, breaching the CWG qualifying time of 2:18:40s. The man from Uttarakhand, who ran the London Marathon in 2019 and the Boston Marathon in 2021, will be keen to better his record.

During the marathon, the athletes will cover a few iconic areas showcasing Birmingham’s art and culture. They will cross Paradise Circus, Centenary Square and the Library of Birmingham.
