India’s Tulika Maan won a silver medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games 2022 after she went down in the women’s +78kg final in Birmingham on Wednesday.

World No. 85 Tulika Maan lost to Tokyo Olympian Sarah Adlington of Scotland, ranked 75, in the final by ippon; where moves executed award one full point for the win.

The match at the Coventry Stadium and Arena lasted three minutes and 29 seconds. The 35-year-old Sarah Adlington won her second CWG title. She was the champion at Glasgow 2014 as well.

Earlier in the day, four-time national champion Tulika Maan beat 88th-ranked Sydnee Andrews in one minute and 53 seconds in the semi-final, and Tracy Durhone of Mauritius, ranked 127th, in the quarter-final. The 23-year-old Indian judoka, the reigning South Asian Games champion, won both rounds by ippon.

Indian judokas finished their Birmingham 2022 campaign with three medals. Glasgow 2014 silver medallist Shushila Devi Likmabam added one more to her bag in the women's 48kg category. Vijay Kumar Yadav claimed bronze in the men's 60kg.

India have now won 11 medals in judo at the Commonwealth Games; four of these medals — two silvers and two bronze — came in the 2014 edition.

A six-member team – three men and three women – represented India in judo at CWG 2022.

Deepak Deswal, on Wednesday, suffered elimination from the men -100kg category after the loss against Tokyo Olympian Tevita Takayawa of Fiji in the men's -100kg repechage. The match lasted for one minute and eight seconds.

Deepak Deswal earlier went down to Harry Lovell-Hewitt of England in the quarter-finals. The Indian judoka beat Erick Jean Sebastien Omgba Fouda of Cameroon in his opening round.

On Monday, Jasleen Singh Saini lost to two-time Olympian Nathan Katz of Australia in the bronze medal match in men's -66kg. Suchika Tariyal lost her bronze medal match to Christianne Legentil of Mauritius in the women's 57kg category.
