The People’s Republic of China won the mixed 4x100-metre medley relay at the World Aquatics Championships 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan, on Wednesday (26 July) - their fourth gold medal of the swimming competition.
The Chinese put together a time of 3 minutes, 38.57 seconds, to finish ahead of Australia (3:39.03), who won both 4x 100 freestyle relays on the first day of the meet.
The United States came home third (3:40.19).
"This is our time, it's a great time. I have a beautiful and a wonderful (team)," said Zhang Yufei, who has also won the women’s 100 butterfly here.
“This gold medal means a lot to us because as you know, last year we won this event and also broke the world record.
“This event for us means the future potential is going to be better and better.“
China were second in the opening backstroke but after Qin Haiyang - the double breaststroke gold medallist in the 50 and 100 - took the baton and the lead, there was no looking back.
Australia made a fierce run at the end but too little, too late.
"We have great teammates," Qin said.
