Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, coach of Simone Biles, named new University of Georgia women’s gymnastics co-head coach

1996 Olympian Cecile Canqueteau-Landi and Ryan Roberts are set to be the new co-head coaches of the University of Georgia women’s gymnastics team, the school announced Thursday (25 April).

Canqueteau-Landi has coached seven-time Olympic medallist Simone Biles since 2017, including at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Canqueteau-Landi still plans to be ‘alongside Biles’ at Paris 2024, according to the press release.

"Congratulations, Cecile. I can't think of a more deserving person. Can't wait to see what the future holds for UGA Gymnastics!" Biles said on her Instagram story. "Y'all are in GREAT hands!"

"Throughout my life, gymnastics has provided me some extraordinary opportunities, from traveling the world and competing for my country at the Olympics to coaching amazing athletes at the highest level,” Canqueteau-Landi said. "Those experiences have helped me become the coach that I am while putting athlete's well-being first and helping them reach their full potential. I am thrilled for the opportunity to be the new co-head coach of the GymDogs with Ryan. I am looking forward to work with team in the near future! I would like to thank Josh Brooks,Stephanie Ransom the entire UGAA staff for this opportunity."

Canqueteau-Landi has previously coached with Roberts at WOGA Gymnastics in the Dallas-area. There, she and husband Laurent guided Madison Kocian to world and Olympic golds.

Following the Rio Games, Canqueteau-Landi and her husband became head coaches at World Champions Centre, owned by Biles’ parents, Ron and Nellie, in Houston.

“Her departure will certainly be felt, but her legacy will forever shape the foundation of World Champions Centre,” Nellie Biles said in a statement.
