Canoe slalom: Australia’s Jessica Fox captures maiden kayak singles gold on fourth Olympic attempt
Australian Jessica Fox punched the water following a faultless run as she finally got her hands on the K1 canoe slalom gold medal that had eluded her at three previous Olympic Games.
Sunday’s (28 July) K1 final at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 proved fourth time lucky for her, as Fox became the first woman to win four medals in the K1 at four straight Games. She added the gold to her London 2012 silver and bronzes from Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
Fox moved to the top of the standings with eight more paddlers to come, including defending champion Ricarda Funk. Funk went into the final as the No. 1-ranked paddler but could not improve on Fox’s time of 96.08.
Klaudia Zwolinska of Poland claimed the silver medal, while Team GB’s Kimberley Woods won the bronze.
