Ice hockey always attracts a big crowd at the Winter Olympics, and in Innsbruck it’ll be no different, especially if you’re Canadian. A dramatic overtime win against the USA saw the hosts take the gold medal in Vancouver 2010. The younger 2012 Team Canada in Austria will be hoping to do the same.
Squad member Ryan Pilon is confident, but knows there’ll be some challenges along the way. With squad members having only a small amount of preparation time, Pilon knows the importance of bonding quickly. “We need to come together as close as we can in this short tournament,” he said.
As always, the American team will be a major hurdle to overcome, but Pilon also has worries about Russia. “They’re always a big challenge for Canadians.” With the first ice hockey matches beginning today, Pilon is keen to make the most of his time in Innsbruck. “It’s been a great experience so far.”
And the experience has got better… Earlier today, Pilon scored a blinding goal against Russia but it wasn't enough to win the game: Russia beat Canada 4:3 - watch it here.
