NBA legend LeBron James looks set to get his wish of sharing the court with his eldest son Bronny, who has announced he will enter the 2024 NBA draft.

Less than a year after making his college basketball debut, the 19-year-old is hoping to take the next step into the professional ranks.

After a turbulent 12 months in which the teenager suffered a cardiac arrest during a training session last July, Bronny James took to Instagram to announce his decision.

“I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student and athlete,” he wrote.

“I’ve made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility, and will also be entering the NCAA transfer portal.”

Just last year LeBron told ESPN he is aiming to be on the court with his son, saying: “I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny.”

The two-time Olympic gold medallist for Team USA added: “Either in the same uniform or a matchup against him [...] I’m here already, I’m just waiting on him.”

The 39-year-old LeBron’s legacy is a tough act to follow for any prospect. Bronny's father became the first NBA player to score 40,000 career points, and is widely considered one of the greatest players in the history of men's basketball.

The NBA draft will take place on 26-27 June.

The basketball tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics begins on 27 July, with the final on 11 August.
