Nina Betschart and Tanja H*ü*berli took the women's title at CEV EuroBeachVolley in Vienna on Saturday (14 August).

The Swiss beat Dutch pair Katja Stam and Raissa Schoon 21-15, 21-12 for their first major beach volleyball triumph having been runners-up in 2018 and finished fourth at the 2019 World Championships.

Betschart and Hüberli reached the last 16 at Tokyo 2020 where they were edged out by compatriots and eventual bronze medallists Joana Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre who skipped this tournament.

After easing through to the semi-finals in the Austrian capital without dropping a set, Betschart and Hüeberli were pushed all the way by Germany's Karla Borger and Julia Sude.

They eventually prevailed 21-9, 22-24, 16-14.

Borger and Sude defeated Anastasija Kravcenoka and Tina Graudina 15-8 in the third set to take bronze in Vienna.

It was another near-miss for the Latvian pair who went down in the Olympic bronze medal match to Heidrich and Verge-Depre.
