The highly-anticipated Australian Swimming Trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics kicked off at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre on Monday. This six-day competition, ending on Saturday, will be used to select Australia’s swimming team for the upcoming Summer Games.
Several Olympic medallists, including Kaylee McKeown, Emma McKeon, Cate Campbell, Emily Seebohm, Bronte Campbell, Mitch Larkin and Cam McEvoy will compete in Brisbane alongside a new generation of Australian swimmers.
At Tokyo 2020, Emma McKeon won seven medals - four gold and three bronze. It is the most by any Australian in a single edition of the Olympics.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics gold medallist Zac Stubblety-Cook, Ariarne Titmus, Mollie O'Callaghan, Kyle Chalmers, Cameron McEvoy, Sam Short and Elijah Winnington will also be among the swimmers in action.
Swimming is also Australia’s best Olympic sport, having yielded 71 of the 167 Olympic gold medals.
With the maximum-possible 52 quotas - 26 for men and 26 for women - secured for the Paris 2024 Olympics, Australia will be sending a full quota of swimmers to Paris.
The top two Dolphins in each final will be selected for the Australian swimming team, provided they meet Swimming Australia’s qualifying standards.
Morning heats will determine the eight fastest swimmers, who will then compete in the evening finals.
The Australian Swimming Trials for the Paris Olympics is the second national meet for the Dolphins this year. The first meet was held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Queensland in April.
Live streaming of the Australian Swimming Trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be available on 9Now in Australia. The event will also be broadcast live on Nine Network.
