Two-time world champion Tyler Wright, Molly Picklum, Jack Robinson and Ethan Ewing will all make their Olympic debuts in Paris.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has announced a four-member surfing team for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. All four surfers - Tyler Wright, Molly Picklum, Jack Robinson and Ethan Ewing - will be making their Olympic debuts.

The four secured provisional qualification for the Paris Summer Games by finishing in the World Surf League (WSL) top five end-of-season rankings in 2023. They confirmed their spots by participating in the 2024 World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico.

“Tyler, Molly, Jack and Ethan have already shown they are among the best surfers in the world and I know Aussie fans are going to be cheering them on in Tahiti in July,” Australia’s Olympic team Chef de Mission Anna Meares said.

“Congratulations as well to the team at Surfing Australia and the coaches, family members and supporters that have helped these four athletes achieve this Olympic milestone today,” she added.

Surfing events at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held at Teahupo'o, Tahiti.

Tyler Wright, a two-time world champion, will be hoping to emulate her brother Owen, who won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Surfing was added to the Olympic programme for the first time at the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021. Australia’s Sally Fitzgibbons and Stephanie Gilmore competed in women’s shortboard in Japan while Owen and Julian Wilson took part in the men’s competition.

At Paris, Tyler will be joined by Molly Picklum, a two-time Championship Tour event winner. She is currently the highest-ranked Australian woman and occupies third place in the WSL rankings.

Jack Robinson has seven Championship Tour wins and Ethan Ewing is also a two-time Championship Tour winner and finished runners-up in last year’s WSL overall.

Robinson has fond memories of the Paris 2024 Olympic surfing venue, having won the Tahiti Pro at Teahupo’o last year.
