Paris 2024 Olympics: Defending champion Keegan Palmer, teen sensation Arisa Trew headline nine-member Australian skateboarding team - full list
Reigning Olympic champion Keegan Palmer and teen prodigy Arisa Trew will headline a nine-member Australian skateboarding team for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The squad was announced by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) on Tuesday.
Palmer won the gold medal in the men’s park skateboarding competition at Tokyo 2020 and he will be returning for his second Summer Games. Australia’s Kieran Woolley, who finished fifth in that final, will also be making his second Olympic appearance at Paris 2024.
“I am beyond stoked to make my second Australian Olympic Team and represent the green and gold,” said Woolley, who secured a fourth and sixth-place finish at the Olympic Qualifying Series events in Shanghai and Budapest.
“The last few weeks have been super action-packed and hopefully, I can keep the momentum heading into Paris.”
Teenagers Arisa Trew, Ruby Trew and Keefer Wilson will make their Olympic debut in the park event in Paris.
Arisa Trew, who will be 14 years and 86 days old when she competes in Paris, will become the seventh youngest Australian Olympian and the youngest in 40 years since Dimity Douglas, who swam at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics at the age of 14 years and 27 days.
The honour of being the youngest Olympian from Australia belongs to rower Ian Johnson, who was 13 years and 74 days old at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.
In the street event, 34-year-old Shane O’Neill will make his second Olympic appearance while Chloe Covell, Haylie Powell and Liv Lovelace will be representing Australia at the Summer Games for the first time.
The team enters Paris with a wealth of international success, including Arisa Trew and Keegan Palmer both winning the Olympic Qualifying Series in June and 14-year-old Covell winning the silver medal at the World Championships 2023.
With nine members at Paris 2024, Australia will field the fourth largest skate team, behind only the US (12), Brazil (12) and Japan (10).
The street skateboarding competition at Paris 2024 will be held on July 27 and 28 while the park events will be held on August 6 and 7 at La Concorde.
