Beatrice Chepkoech has done it again. The 3000m steeplechase world champion has set a 5km road world record winning the Monaco Run in 14 minutes 43 seconds.

The 29-year old Kenyan, who also holds the steeplechase world record on the track, battled cool and windy conditions on Sunday to shave one second off Sifan Hassan's mark also set in Monaco in 2019.

Uganda's 10,000m world champion Joshua Cheptegei was off world record pace but took the men's race in 13:14 ahead of Kenya's Bethwell Birgen (13:18).

The 5,000m and 10,000m world record holder broke the 5km road world record last year in 12:51.

"It feels so good. even though there was a lot of wind, I tried to follow my pacemaker and everything was perfect," said Chepkoech who was paced by Dutch runner Luuk Maas.

"I'm so happy because I didn't expect it."

The 5km road race was only recognised as an official world record event in 2017.

Here are six things you might not know about Cheptegei.

Chepkoech started out super fast and managed to keep the speed despite less than ideal conditions.

"It was cold but my pacemaker told me, 'We can do it, let's push it' and I managed to run right on pace," she said.

Sweden's Meraf Bahta finished more than a minute behind Chepkoech in second (15:46) with Alice Finot from France taking third in 15:52.
