Artistic swimming is returning to the Olympic Games for the 11th time at Paris 2024 and competition this year promises to be nothing short of electrifying.

The sport will consist of two events: the duet and team competition. Both will be made up of a free and technical routine, with the team competition also incorporating an acrobatic routine - something that is new to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Also new is the incorporation of men in the team competition, as that has never been allowed at an Olympic Games before.

Competition will take place at the Olympics Aquatic Center from 5 to 10 August, with the medal days being the 7 August for the team competition and 10 August for the duets.

The People’s Republic of China is a dominant force in the world of artistic swimming and they will walk into Paris 2024 as one of the favourites for team and duet gold. At the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, they took the silver medal in both the team and duet competitions and recently took the world title in all three team disciplines at Doha 2024.

The nation has become especially dominant in the past two years and the roster of nine athletes named to their Olympic team is experienced. They are looking for their first Olympic gold in the sport.

Japan steps up to Paris as another competitor for gold. In front of a home crowd at Tokyo 2020, they took the bronze medal in the duet and team competition and at the 2024 World Championships, the nation took silver in the team free routine and bronze in the team technical.

The United States, Spain and Ukraine also landed on the podium during team competition at Doha 2024 and are teams to keep an eye on in Paris.

Mexico is making their debut in the team competition for the first time in 26 years and they obtained their quota at the 2023 Pan American Games after besting the USA and Canada.
