Andy Murray and Dan Evans embraced as they sent the court Suzanne-Lenglen crowd into a frenzy after a spectacular come-from-behind victory to reach the quarterfinals of the men’s tennis doubles tournament at Paris 2024.

Murray’s bid for a fairytale ending to his career is still alive and kicking after their dramatic 6-3, 6-7, 11-9 victory over Belgium’s Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen on Tuesday (30 July).

The British duo saved two match points in the best-of-10 ‘super-tiebreak’. It was the second match in a row that Murray and Evans pulled a rabbit out of the hat to advance to the next round.

The tenacious Scot extended his career by at least another match and is still in the running to claim an unprecedented third medal at the Olympics. The 37-year-old is the only man in history to win two Olympic tennis golds, at London 2012 and Rio 2016.

The British pair were involved in another dramatic contest at these Games after winning the first set with relative ease before a battle of attrition ensued in the second.

Murray and Evans got their second-round doubles match off to a flier winning the first three games of the opening set, before wrapping up the set for a 1-0 advantage over the Belgians.

The contest was evenly poised in the second set with Murray and Evans coming painstakingly close to breaking in the ninth game before the Belgians saved two break points.

But the Belgians came fully prepared to dig deep as they matched Murray and Evans point-for-point to enforce the tiebreaker and send the match into a best-of-10 ‘super-tiebreak’.

Murray and Evans again found the edge for another inspirational victory at Roland Garros, as their fairytale Olympic journey continues.
