Canada and reigning Olympic champions Sweden will meet in the final of the 2024 World Men’s Curling Championship after coming through their semi-finals in Schaffenhausen, Switzerland on Saturday (6 April).
Brad Gushue and his Canada rink ran out convincing 9-4 winners over Scotland with Bruce Mouat's defending world champions conceding defeat after eight ends.
Mouat had played a wonderfully weighted takeout through a small gap between two Canada guard stones for a double in the second end to make it 2-2.
But with the score at 3-3 in the sixth end and Canada lying four, Mouat left his final stone short to hand Canada a 6-3 lead.
Scotland scored a single in the seventh, but Canada piled on the pressure thanks to a superb double takeout from third Mark Nichols which left them lying two.
Mouat was unable to find a response with Gushue drawing for another triple to end the contest as he seeks a second world crown seven years after his first.
Niklas Edin will bid for a seventh world title after leading Sweden to a 5-1 win over Italy.
In a tight encounter, the Swedes patiently waited for their opportunity having led 2-1 after four ends.
That chance came in the seventh with Edin producing a perfect draw for a triple and a 5-1 advantage.
Joel Retornaz's rink did manage singles in both the eighth and ninth ends, but the Italians conceded before the 10th end was over as Edin and co reached a ninth world final.
Edin and Gushue will meet for the third time in a World Championship decider with the former winning both previous encounters in Las Vegas in 2018 and 2022. Gushue was also on the losing side in the last year's final.
