2024 European Badminton Championships: Carolina Marin, Viktor Axelsen through to semi-finals in Saarbruecken
Rio 2016 Olympic badminton champion Carolina Marin advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 European Championships in Saarbruecken, Germany on Friday (12 April).
The 2024 All England women's singles champion swept aside Frenchwoman Léonice Huet in straight games, 21-18, 21-15.
In the semi-finals, Marin is set to face world No. 44 Julie Jakobsen of Denmark, who won the all-Danish meeting against Line Kjaersfeldt.
Earlier in the day, Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour defeated Line Christophersen and will face Neslihan Arin of Türkiye next.
Tokyo 2020 men's singles Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen claimed a seventh win in seven meetings against Danish compatriot Rasmus Gemke in Saarbruecken's evening session. Axelsen won 21-19, 21-12 to advance to the semis, as well.
Axelsen will take on last year's bronze medallist Toma Junior Popov of France on Saturday (13 April), while world No. 4 Anders Antonsen, another Dane, will meet Finland's Joakim Oldorff for a spot in the final.
