Three-time Olympic gymnastics gold medallist Gabby Douglas is set to make her first competitive appearance since the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Saturday (27 April) at the American Classic in Katy, Texas.

Douglas will be joined by fellow Olympic gold medallist Jade Carey and 2023 World team champion Joscelyn Roberson. It will be a season debut for both with Carey wrapping up her NCAA season a week ago and Roberson working her way back from an ankle injury sustained at the Worlds.

In February, Douglas had planned to compete at the Winter Cup in Louisville, Kentucky, but withdrew from the event, citing COVID-19.

Douglas announced her intentions to try for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games last July.

She says the U.S. nationals two years ago stirred up her competitive fire.

"I was watching the 2022 [U.S.] championships, and I was like, 'Man, I miss competing.' And, I was trying to figure out how to get like, this... I'm still a competitor at heart.... I can get this out of me, and so I decided to start back training," Douglas told Hallie Jackson on NBC News Now. "I can't believe I'm in this sport again."
