Is it time to go again already? After the final day drama of last year’s World Triathlon Championship Series, the fun is about to return with the first race of the 2023 season taking place this weekend (3-4 March) in Abu Dhabi.

There will be six different races before the series finale takes place in September in Pontevedra, Spain, with the points athletes accumulate throughout the year counting towards the 2023 world title - as well as qualification for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Read on to discover more about the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series including the full schedule and stars to watch.

Triathletes to follow in the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series

Bermuda’s reigning Olympic champion Flora Duffy and France’s Leo Bergere are getting ready to defend the series titles they won last season.

But the road to becoming the 2023 champion won’t be easy.

Bergere has already come face-to-face with the threat of one of Britain’s greatest triathletes, Alex Yee. Still only 25 years old, Yee knows a thing or two about winning. In 2021, he took home individual silver and mixed relay gold at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, following it up in 2022 with second place in the World Series. He was also part of the British team that qualified for the Paris 2024 mixed relay competition, after coming second against France (who had already qualified for Paris 2024 as Olympic hosts) in last year’s Mixed Relay World Championship in Montreal.

Another Brit who was part of the relay team that qualified for Paris 2024 is Georgia Taylor-Brown. The reigning Olympic mixed relay champion and individual silver medallist, Taylor-Brown will aim to go one better than the second place she achieved in the 2022 World Series where she lost out on the title in the final race of the season.

Other names to keep a close eye on this year include Norway's men’s individual Olympic champion Kristian Blummenfelt and Bergere’s compatriot Vincent Luis, who has twice won the World Series.

In the women’s competition, watch out for the USA’s Rio 2016 Olympic champion Gwen Jorgensen and her compatriot Katie Zaferes, who won bronze at Tokyo 2020.
