Biography

Willy Favre joined the Swiss national alpine skiing team in the early 1960s and made an impressive debut at the Winter Olympics in 1964 by placing fourth in the giant slalom, eighth in the downhill, and fourteenth in the slalom. He was fifth and sixth in the combined and giant slalom respectively at the 1966 World Championships, and then earned his only World Cup podium finish, second in the giant slalom, in January 1967. He then earned a surprise silver medal in the giant slalom at the 1968 Winter Olympics, where he also competed in the slalom. Favre retired shortly after the Games and died relatively young, at the age of 43, in 1986.
