Biography

Valery Kalachikhin played for three clubs during his career, VS Rostov-na-Donu, Burevestnik Rostov-na-Donu and SKA Rostov-na-Donu. He won only one medal – a silver – at the Soviet Championships in 1963. On the Soviet national team, Kalachikhin played only two years from 1963 to 1964 and he won Olympic gold in 1964 and bronze at the 1963 European Championships. After finishing his playing career in 1969, Kalachikhin worked as a volleyball coach, as the head coach of SKA Rostov-na-Donu and the head coach of Vietnam and Madagascar national teams.
