Biography

The high point of Väinö Kajander’s career was the 1932 Olympics, where he won a silver medal in Greco-Roman welterweight. At the time of the Olympics, Kajander was already 39-years-old and he continued to compete until 1936. In 1930, Kajander also won gold at the Workers’ World Championships. Kajander never won a Finnish title, but was the Finnish Workers' Sports Federation Greco-Roman middleweight champion in 1920-23, 1926 and 1928. By profession, Kajander was a machinist.
