Biography

As of 2013, Liechtenstein has won nine medals at the Olympic Winter Games but Ursula Konzett’s bronze medal at slalom at the 1984 Winter Games is unique as it is the only one that was not won by a member of either the Wenzel or Frommelt families. Konzett was just 17 when she made her Olympic début at the 1976 Winter Games and was one of the youngest athletes ever to have been granted the honour of carrying a national flag in the parade of nations at the Opening Ceremony. She made steady progression on the World Cup circuit until the winter of 1981-82 where she had a breakout season finishing as runner-up in the slalom standings after recording two World Cup victories on either side of winning a bronze medal at the 1982 World Championships. However the zenith of her career passed quickly and only once more did she find herself in a podium position during her remaining years of competition. Surprisingly this came at the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo where produced a blistering first run then held off more fancied rivals to take a bronze medal in the slalom. She retired after the 1984-85 season.
