Biography

Tom Kirby earned several amateur titles, winning the 1923 Boston-New York Intercity match and adding the AAU Junior heavyweight title that year. In 1924 he won the New England AAU title and the AAU title, which qualified him for the Olympics Games in Paris. He turned pro after the Olympics and fought his first pro bout in September 1924 against Jack McClelland, defeating him on points in eight rounds. Kirby had a long, but unremarkable professional career. He finished with a record of 27 wins, 23 losses, and 4 draws, and never fought for a major title. He fought through 1931, although he came back and fought one bout each in 1933 and 1936.
