Biography

Stephen Kipkorir had a very short athletics career, consisting basically of one year at the international level. He first made the Kenyan National Team in 1996 at the World Cross-Country Championships, where he finished 14th, but only 7th on the winning Kenyan team. Primarily a 1,500 metre runner, he posted his personal best in early July 1996 in Lausanne, Switzerland, running 3:31.87, but finishing only 6th in the race. However, he qualified for the Kenyan Olympic team in 1996 in the 1,500 and won a bronze medal. He was a professional soldier at the time and remained in the military until his untimely death in a non-combat military vehicle accident. He also owned a farm, where several prominent Kenyan athletes lived and trained.
