Through the early 21st century Shannon Miller had the top record of any American female gymnast, winning seven Olympic medals, and was the leader of the US team that won the team gold medal at Atlanta in 1996. Miller was World All-Around Champion in 1993 and 1994, and won the 1995 Pan Am Games All-Around gold medal. She won five gold medals and a silver at the 1993-94 Worlds. Although she failed to win a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, Miller won five medals in Barcelona, the most of any American athlete at those Games. She returned in 1996, winning two gold medals, one in team and one on the balance beam.
After college at the University of Oklahoma, finishing at the University of Houston in 2003, she earned a law degree from Boston College, but never worked as a lawyer, instead working in broadcasting and giving gymnastics clinics. Miller also formed her own company “Shannon Miller Lifestyle” which promotes healthy living, especially for women, and works as a motivational speaker. She is also President of the Shannon Miller Foundation, which works to fight childhood obesity.
