Seyd was born in a small village in the mountains of Iran called Chorr. He started running when he was 16 years old. Second last of a family of five, he used to help his father, who is a farmer, and run between his village and the next main city, Merivan (about 20km), to do some track training.
When he was 18 years old, he joined the national team in Teheran where he also studied physical education at university.
In 2019, he had no other choice but to leave everything behind and look for safety. Starting a long journey from Iran, he ended up in the UK where he claimed asylum. His wife was able to join him shortly afterwards and they now live together in London. He is currently improving his English and hopes to be able to go to university again to finish his degree.
Seyd trains a minimum of seven times a week, including some sessions with his athletics club, the Highgate Harriers, which he considers his family.
He sees the scholarship as an amazing opportunity to start his new life freer of mind.
