Biography

Scot Hollonbeck competed in four Olympic Games (1992-2004) in 1,500 metre wheelchair racing, always a demonstration event. He also competed at the Paralympics from 1992-2004, winning five medals and two gold medals.

Hollonbeck was paralyzed at age 14 when he was hit by a van while riding his bicycle. Days after the accident he watched Sharon Hedrick break a world record in wheelchair racing and became interested in the sport. Hollonbeck attended the University of Illinois, where he competed on the school’s wheelchair basketball and track teams. He later settled in Atlanta where he worked in the Worldwide Sports Department of The Coca-Cola Company. He also worked in disabled sports as a policy expert and access advocate.
