Biography

In 1934, track cyclist Rudolf Karsch became German tandem champion with Ernst Ihbe. At the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games Karsch won the bronze medal in the 1,000m time trial. Sadly, he retired from cycling in 1939 after a serious accident on the track. He started to make a comeback with the former GDR in 1950, but without success. Later that year he was found dead in his flat in Erfurt as a result of sluicing gas poisoning. The circumstances surrounding his death were never established.
