Biography

Roland Brückner was an East German gymnast who specialized in the floor exercise where he won his Olympic gold medal in 1980, also winning the 1979 World Championship and 1981 European Championship on the floor. He won five Olympic medals, adding a silver in the 1980 team all-around, a bronze in that event in 1976, and also winning apparatus bronze medals in 1980 on the parallel bars and vault. His title collection was completed by 23 national titles and two World Cup victories in 1978 and 1980. Brückner later worked as a coach in Switzerland together with his former teammate Maxi Gnauck.
