Biography

Point guard Roberto Lovera was on the Uruguayan national team from 1943-53 and was captain of the national side from 1950-53. The high point of Lovera’s career came at the 1952 Olympics, where he captained Uruguay to a bronze medal. He was also South American Champion in 1947, 1949 and 1953 and won silver at the South American Championships in 1943 and 1945. At the club level, Lovera played his entire career with Club Atlético Olimpia, winning the Uruguayan title and South American Club Championship with them in 1946. He retired from sports in 1953 and later worked as head coach of Club Atlético Olimpia, leading them to three Uruguayan titles in 1970-72.
