Biography
Robert David WEBSTER
Bob Webster won his first collegiate diving competition representing Santa Ana Junior College, even though the school had no pool in which Webster could train. He transferred to Michigan where he came under the influence of the great coaches, Bruce Harlan and Dick Kimball. Webster was also coached by Sammy Lee and in 1964 he matched Dr. Lee's record of successfully defending an Olympic platform title. After placing third in the 3 m springboard at the 1959 Pan American Games he became the first American to win the platform title four years later in São Paulo. Webster won two AAU outdoor platform titles and was the indoor springboard champion in 1962. He later became a coach at Minnesota, Princeton and the University of Alabama. He was also the U.S. diving coach at the 1971 PanAm Games.
