Born in Germany to American parets, Bob Frojen grew up in Southern California. He played first at Fullerton Junior College and then at Stanford, graduating in 1952, and making All-American as a swimmer in 1950-52 and played for AAU water polo champions outdoors in 1949-50, and indoors in 1957, playing for the Southern California Water Polo Club. Frojen also won a silver medal at the 1955 Pan American Games. He worked as a banker at the time of the 1956 Olympics, but later went into public relations with Bozell & Jacobs. Frojen was inducted into the US Water Polo Hall of Fame in 1981.
