Biography

Raul Marquez fought as a light-middleweight at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, losing in the quarter-finals. He came into Barcelona as a favorite, having won the 1991 World Amateur Championships, and had won a silver at the 1990 Goodwill Games. Marquez was US champion as a welterweight in 1989 and a light-middleweight in 1991.

After the 1992 Olympics, Marquez turned professional and won his first 25 bouts. In April 1997 he defeated Anthony Stephens by TKO to win the IBF light-middleweight title. He defended the title twice that year, but lost it by TKO in December 1997 to Luis Ramón Campas. Marquez later fought for several titles unsuccessfully. He ended his professional career with a record of 69 wins (37 by KO), 4 losses, and 1 draw. Marquez became a color analyst for boxing matches on Spanish-language networks.
