A midfielder, he played his club football between 1977-90 in Colombia with Independiente Santa Fe, Junior Barranquilla, Unión Magdalena, Deportes Tolima, Atlético Bucaramanga and Independiente Medellín. He also had a brief spell in Venezuela with Deportivo Táchira. He played a total of 368 games and scored 15 goals. García collapsed while playing tennis just after New Year 2019, and died in hospital aged 61. His brother, the well-known Colombian actor Herbert King, died of a heart attack, aged 55, just five months earlier.
