Biography

Hekš declined participation in the Olympic Games 1936 as he was Jewish and did not want to be a part of the "Nazi Games". Therefore he was one of the organizers of the "People's Olympiad" in Barcelona (19 - 26 July 1936) as an alternative. Directly after the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Germans he was deported to the concentration camp Terezín with one of the first transports. In 1942 he was deported further to the death camp of Oświęcim, where he was gassed in 1944.

Personal Best: Mar – 2-41:35 (1932).
