Biography

Oenone WOOD

Oenone Wood only started competitive cycling at the relatively late age of twenty after previously studying to be an electrical engineer. She made quick progress through the professional ranks and by 2003 was ranked inside the world’s top twenty. She made her breakthrough in 2004 winning both the Australian road race and time trial championships, the points classification of the women’s Giro D’Italia and ended the year as the winner of the UCI’s Road World Cup series. Wood retained the Road World Cup in 2005 and the following year took gold in the time trial and silver in the road race at the Commonwealth Games. She regained the Australian road race title in early 2008 but elected to retire at the end of the year. She was voted Australia’s female road cyclist of the year in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
