Biography

Noé Hernández was twice an Olympian, after winning gold at the 1999 Central American and Caribbean Championships in the 20 km walk. He became a household name in Mexico after winning his silver medal in Sydney. Hernández competed at the World Championships in 2001 and 2003, placing fourth in 2003 in the 20 km. He tragically died quite young. In early 2013 he was in a bar when a fight broke out. A man opened fire, killing two people and shooting Hernández in the head. He lost his eye from the gunshot, and seemed to recover briefly, but died two weeks later.
