Biography

Nadezhda Besfamilnaya first competed internationally at the 1969 European Championships, where she placed sixth with the Soviet 4×100 relay team. The apex of her career came at the last major international tournament in which she participated, the 1976 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal with the Soviet 4×100 relay. Individually she was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 200 and quarter-finals of the 100 at the 1976 Olympics. In addition to her Olympic bronze, Besfamilnaya also won 4×100 relay bronze at the 1971 European Championships, 4×200 relay gold at the 1970 European Indoors. She won 13 Soviet titles – 100 in 1971-73; 200 in 1969, 1971-72 and 1975; and 4×100 relay in 1971-76. Besfamilnaya worked as an athletics coach in Moskva after finishing her sports career.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.41 (1976); 200 – 22.8 (1972).
