Biography

Weightlifter Max Walter was European Champion in 1935. He then finished a disappointing eighth at the 1936 Berlin Olympics in the featherweight division. He finished third at the 1937 World Championships, again in the featherweight class. He set five bantamweight and featherweight world records from 1928-35 – two in the snatch and three in the total. He was the German Champion 1928-36 and in 1938. Although born in Alsace Walter grew up in Germany. He later was a long-time coach in his hometown Saarbrücken.
