Biography

Long jumper Max Klauß finished sixth at the 1972 München Olympic Games. He took part in the 1966 European Championships in the decathlon (fourth), and in the long jump in 1969 (sixth), 1971 (gold medal), and 1973 (seventh). At the European Indoors he won medals of each color – 1972-gold, 1973-silver, and 1974-bronze. At the 1973 European Cup Klauß placed third. Domestically he collected seven East German titles – decathlon in 1967, long jump in 1971-74, and indoor long jump in 1971 and 1973.

Klauß was educated as a biomechanicist at the Central Institute for Sports Medicine in Kreischa. He married non-Olympian long jumper Kristina Ziegler. In documents on doping in the former GDR, which became public after reunification, his name was found in the list of doped athletes.
