Biography

Long jumper qualified for the final at the 1972 München Olympic Games and finished eighth. She was also a good pentathlete and won a bronze medal at the 1971 Europeans, finishing seventh three years later. At the 1971 Europeans she also came in ninth in long jump. Olfert participated at the 1970 European Cup, placing third in the long jump, and the 1973 European Cup, finishing third in the pentathlon. At the 1973 Universiade she won a gold medal in the long jump as her greatest athletic moment.

Domestically Olfert won East German titles in the long jump in 1970-1 (also indoors in 1971), and in the pentathlon indoors and out in 1971. She graduated as a pedagogue and married her coach Willi Olfert. She worked until 2004 in the Environment and Agriculture Ministry of Saxony-Anhalt.
