Biography

A member of Croydon Ladies Swimming Club, Margaret Jefferey appeared at the 1936 Berlin Olympics before she had won a British title. She then went to the 1938 British Empire Games in Sydney as the reigning Southern Counties 220 and 440 yards freestyle champion. She returned from Australia with a silver medal in the 440 and then went on to win both the 220 and 440 titles at the ASA Championships before the year was out. Jefferey later trained as a nurse at the London Hospital.
