Biography

Rower Manfred Schneider was a member of the East German coxed eights at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, winning the B-final, and classifying seventh. Four years later, in München, he won the bronze medal. Schneider started his rowing career as a single and double sculler. In 1968, he switched to the eights, and won the East German national title in 1970. The following year Schneider turned to coxed fours, and again won the national title, and also a silver medal at the European Championships, narrowly beaten by West Germany. In 1972 he returned to the eights.

Schneider married the non-Olympian Inge Gabriel, and studied political science. He later worked in the financial department of his home club, SG Dynamo Schwerin.
