Biography

Luigi Colturi made his début in International skiing at the 1985 World Junior Championships. His first significant result in the World Cup was in January 1988 when he finished 14th in the downhill at Leukerbad (Switzerland). His only World Cup podium was on 5 December 1992 at Val D’Isère (France), when he was third in the Super-G behind the Norwegian Jan Einar Thorsen and Switzerland's Franz Heinzer.

Colturi competed in the downhill at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics, gaining selection only after a run-off against his friend Werner Perathoner in the final trial. Colturi's last World Cup appearance was in the downhill at Val Gardena on 21 December 1996. He never won an Italian title, but was second in the Super-G in 1992-93, and the downhill in 1992. Luigi Colturi died at only 43, and his final years were a far cry from the splendour and fame of the world of skiing.
